Joint supplements for dogs with joint pain are the biggest victims of ‘fashion’ in the natural supplement industry, IMHO.  Which has worked out as kind of an opportunity for us actually. Because we have landed up having a 100% unique supplement which works really well.

Many pets, for various reasons, suffer from joint pain. Old age or genetics or disease or an accident can cause damage to cartilage, which will result in inflammation and pain in the joint. Dogs with joint pain are extremely common and they are not always old.

A good supplement will aim to address these three things:

1. Pain
2. Inflammation
3. Damage to cartilage

MSM, Glucosamine and Chondroitin sulphate are the ‘fashion’ ingredients that I was talking about. Just about every single  supplement on the market for dogs with joint pain contains these three. I decided to include MSM and Glucosamine because they work. Glucosamine helps to repair the cartilage. No-one really knows exactly how MSM works – it seems to inhibit the breakdown of cartilage as well as reduce swelling.  I left out the Chondroitin because, well, I remain unconvinced.

Devil’s Claw was a no-brainer for me. This African root has been shown in numerous studies to work better than many NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory) at reducing pain and inflammation.

I’ve added Chia seeds as a source of Omega 3. Most pet diets are too low in Omega 3. Low levels of Omega 3 can result in stiffness and joint pain.

Finally, I included Fenugreek seed powder in the formulation. Fenugreek is a spice whose smell you will recognise from curry powder. What you might not know is that it is a potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory herb. In one Indian study, it reversed the effects of arthritis in rats.

Okay, so do you see what I’ve tried to do? Protect and heal the joint itself, relive any pain that might be there and prevent and decrease inflammation. Result? Hopefully a happier pet.
