More importantly, the active compounds are different: Panax species contain ginsenosides, whereas Eleutherococcus contains eleutherosides. These are not interchangeable chemical classes. The mechanism by which each plant acts on the body, and therefore what you can reasonably expect from supplementing with one versus the other, is not the same.

This matters enormously when you are evaluating research. The bulk of published ginseng studies, on fatigue, lipid metabolism, anti-inflammatory pathways, and drug interactions, are conducted on Panax ginseng, not Eleutherococcus. Citing that body of work to support a Siberian ginseng product, or vice versa, is scientifically inaccurate. Both plants have genuine adaptogenic properties, but they are not doing the same job through the same chemistry.
