What causes an imbalanced gut microbiome in dogs, cats, or horses?

Common triggers include antibiotic use, sudden diet changes, stress (travel, kenneling, new environments), poor-quality or highly processed food, parasites, and illness. In horses specifically, high-grain diets, limited turnout, and stress from competition or transport are frequent culprits.

What are the signs of poor gut health in a pet?

Loose stools or diarrhea, gas, bloating, inconsistent appetite, bad breath, dull coat, itchy or flaky skin, and recurring low-grade illness are all common signs. In horses, this can also show up as poor condition, colic sensitivity, or behavioural changes.
